U.S. Green Building Council Elects Denise Grabowski to 2015 Board of Directors

Board of Directors supports the mission, vision and values of USGBC, advances green building movement and sustainable future

 

[SAVANNAH, GA] – (Dec. 1, 2014) — The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced from Washington, D.C., the newly elected and appointed officers and directors to its 2015 Board of Directors, including Denise Grabowski of Symbioscity who will serve a three-year term in the Urban/Regional Planner seat.

 

“I am extremely honored to have been elected by the members of USGBC to the Board of Directors,” said Grabowski.  “As an urban planner and environmental scientist, the green building movement is a perfect reflection of my passion to balance the needs of the built environment with the natural environment.  I am especially optimistic about our exponentially increasing knowledge and awareness about the links between the built environment and human health.  I look forward to working with an amazing group of leaders from across the country and internationally to advance the mission of USGBC.”

Our Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from many different segments of the building industry and will undoubtedly make great strides in the coming year. I know that Denise will be a valuable contributor in her role, given her wealth of experience and knowledge.”

 

USGBC’s membership elected the following individuals to serve as directors, for a term of three years each, effective Jan. 1, 2015:

 

·         Stephen Bushnell, Stephen Bushnell + Associates: Insurance seat (incumbent)

·         Linda Chipperfield, Green Seal, Inc.: Environmental Nonprofit Advocate seat (newly elected)

·         Amy Costello, Armstrong World Industries: Product Manufacturer seat (newly elected)

·         Denise Grabowski, Symbioscity: Urban/Regional Planner seat (newly elected)

·         Christopher Schaffner, The Green Engineer, Inc.: Sustainable Practice Leader: Engineer seat (newly elected)

In addition, at its recent meeting in New York, the Board named the following directors to fill appointed positions, each for a term of two years:

·         Mark James, Urban Green LLC:  Sustainable Community Leader seat (formerly in the Green Affordable Housing seat)

·         Vance Voss, Principal Real Estate Investors: Commercial Real Estate Executive Leadership seat (newly appointed)

The Board elected Fiona Cousins, Arup, as chair-elect and Lisa Matthiessen, Integral Group, as secretary. Marge Anderson, Energy Center of Wisconsin, will serve as chair, and George Bandy, Interface, will serve as immediate past chair. Stuart Carron, ENERGIZE RE LLC, will continue as treasurer. New terms will begin Jan. 1, 2015.

 

“Both the promise and challenge of the future of green building are significant and I have no doubt this board is equal to the task of advancing the movement,” said Marge Anderson, USGBC Board chair. “With so many individual and yet complementary perspectives coming to the table, we are prepared to champion the inclusion of sustainable design and construction across industries, on large and small scales, in public and private spaces.”

Denise Grabowski, AICP, LEED AP, is the founder of Symbioscity, an urban planning firm dedicated to fostering mutually beneficial relationships between people, place and planet.  Denise is active with many community and professional organizations.  She is a founding member and past Board Chair of the USGBC Georgia Chapter, serves on the USGBC Chapter Steering Committee, and is a past member of the Georgia Planning Association Board of Directors.  Denise is also co-founder of Designing4Health, a collaboration of diverse professionals working to increase the understanding between public health and community design.  She has a Master’s in City Planning from Georgia Tech and a B.S. in Environmental Science from Furman University.  She is also a graduate of the Georgia Institute for Environmental Leadership and was named to Georgia Trend’s “40 Under 40:  Georgia’s Best and Brightest” list in 2009.
