(SAVANNAH, GA) The Savannah Country Day School Middle School Math Team has finished its season with two first place wins and a trip to the state level math competition.

On February 23, the team of Will Brawner, Falls Kennedy, Vihan Lakshman, and Andrew Tsai placed first in the regional level of the difficult MATHCOUNTS competition. Will Brawner took the prize for first place individual, and Andrew Tsai was the second place individual at the competition after three grueling rounds of problems.

Michael Liang, Nick Kennedy, Collin Richards, and Riley McDonough also competed as individuals in this competition held all over the United States. Michael and Nick also qualified to attend the state level as individuals; Michael placed fourth in the region and Nick was sixth. The team competed in the state MATHCOUNTS contest on Saturday, March 15, in Atlanta, and placed 14th in the state. Will Brawner was the number 16 individual in the state out of about 200 students.

Additionally, on Saturday, March 8, the Middle School Math Team took 13 students to the Georgia Southern University Invitational Math Tournament. The team of Andrew Tsai, Michael Liang, Vihan Lakshman, and Scott Beauchamp won first place in their division of about 34 teams. Andrew took the first place trophy and Michael won the second place prize. Also competing were Falls Kennedy, Chase Wherle, Riley McDonough, Sarah Mac Bowman, Collin Richards, Nick Kennedy, Andrew Hearn, Andrew Lee, and Rishi Patel.
