Goodwill of the Coastal Empire Announces Stand Down for Homelessness Resource and Job Fair

(SAVANNAH, GA) The eleventh annual Veterans Stand Down for Homelessness Resource and Job Fair plans to be held September 16 and 17 at the Savannah Civic Center from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Participants are offered a hot meal, haircuts, showers and opportunities for a variety of health screenings. Representatives from more than 40 Social Service agencies are available to provide information and outreach on a variety of services including housing options, job resources, resume writing tips, substance abuse treatment, income tax assistance, and accesses to Social Security and Veteran’s Administration services.

This event is a collaboration of Savannah’s military and nonprofit communities to reach individuals in crisis and connect them with programs and services that will end their homelessness. The Stand Down is intended to serve homeless veterans but is open to all individuals and families impacted by homelessness. There is no cost to attend.

Community sponsors include The Department of Veteran Affairs Community Out-base Patient Clinic; The Savannah Vet Center; the American Legion Post 500; Goodwill of the Coastal Empire, Inc.; the Military Order of the Purple Hearts; the Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless and the Salvation Army.

Each year over 400 community volunteers assist with the Stand Down, including the Social Work department at Savannah State University that coordinates the distribution of clothes and personal items to veterans experiencing homelessness.

Three hundred (300) veterans experienced homelessness in Chatham County in 2013 according to statistics released by the Chatham-Savannah Authority for the Homeless. Traditionally, the Homeless Authority sees veterans from the Vietnam era, however, more and more veterans from the Gulf and Afghanistan conflicts are presenting for various services. These men and women have served their country and we want them to know that the Savannah community is here to help them when they return.

The Stand Down is funded in part by Goodwill of the Coastal Empire, Inc. Operation Open Doors, The United States Department of Veterans Affairs, The Chatham-Savannah Authority for the Homeless, and The Salvation Army.

Wright Security Systems Celebrates A Quarter of a Century in Business

(SAVANNAH, GA) Savannah based home and office security provider, Wright Security Systems, Inc. celebrates 25 years in business. Wright Security Systems specializes in the design, installation, service and monitoring of security and fire alarm systems. Wright Security also offers video recording and in-home automation for both residential and commercial markets.

Noel B. Wright III, President and CEO of Wright Security Systems, has been in the residential and commercial security dealers industry for over 30 years. Starting his career as an alarm technician of a small company in Savannah, Wright took a leap of faith and started his own business when his first child was born.

“This company started as my way of helping family and friends get access to tools that would keep their loved ones safe and secure,” Wright said, “It has evolved to give our neighbors and other Savannah residents access to the latest technology in business, home and personal security.”

Last year, 79,992 burglary crimes were reported in Georgia, which is almost a fourth of the total crime reported for the state. In the Savannah area, 2,846 incidences were reported. From those numbers, 2,532 burglaries occurred in Chatham County. For more information on reported crimes in Georgia, visit .

An article published by Security Journal in June of 2013 found that individual security devices confer up to three times greater protection against burglary with entry than no security. The study also found that combinations of security devices in general afford up to roughly 50 times more protection than no security.

Wright said, “People usually wait to call us until after they get broken into. By then, their belongings are gone, and the family tends to feel violated by the attack. I urge everyone to be aware of the crime activity in our area and take preventative measures to ensure the safety of their family.”

Security seems to run in the Wright family, as Noel’s children have joined the business in the last few years. His eldest son, Andrew now serves as a technician, and his daughter, Cynthia serves as the company’s communications officer. The company now monitors over 700 residents and businesses in Savannah and the surrounding area.

Dr. Angela Canfield Announces Planmeca ProMax X-Ray Technology

(SAVANNAH/RINCON, GA) Angela Canfield, DDS, introduces the Planmeca ProMax to Premier Dental Designs in Rincon, a family and preventative dentistry practice. The Planmeca ProMax is a complete imaging center for digital X-rays, which allows streaming of digital X-rays from tablet to computer.

“The Planmeca ProMax machine produces less radiation than conventional x-ray technology that is often used,” commented Dr. Canfield, “To give you a comparison, my machine emits less radiation than the amount a person would be exposed to walking outside or eating a banana.”

The Planmeca ProMax machine incorporates autofocus positions to get perfect images every time and reduces the need for multiple takes and patient discomfort. With clearer images, problem areas can be detected much earlier. The machine also recognizes patients’ anatomy to calculate the placement of bitewings, pans or full mouth series, which is the foam pad that must be placed between the teeth, helping to reduce gag reflex for the patient.

Romexis software, which works with Mac OS and Windows, is upgradable, lowering the out-of-pocket cost for patient X-rays, which is recommended at least once a year. Also, this machine may be used with a cadcam machine to mill crowns. In the future, this machine will be upgradable to be used to take cephalometric and perform implants.

“Our patients will really save because this technology allows us to catch small things faster before they get to bigger, more expensive fixes,” said Dr. Canfield.

The Planmeca ProMax machine will also be introduced to Dr. Canfield’s second location, Sandfly Family Dental, opening in the Norwood Market in September. For more information on the Planmeca ProMax machine, visit .
