MEDIA ADVISORY

Preparing for and Hiking the Camino de Santiago

(HILTON HEAD, SC) Outside Hilton Head will host a discussion on ‘Preparing for and Hiking the Camino de Santiago,’ Thursday, March 8th at 5:45 pm. Marjorie Young will share her experience on preparing, packing, training and hiking the ancient 500-mile trek through northern Spain.

The trail starts in the Pyrenees in France and follows the mountain range into northern Spain and ends up in the ancient city of Santiago de Compostela, the alleged burial site of the Biblical apostle St. James. Many follow its route as a form of spiritual path or retreat for their spiritual growth. It is also popular with hiking and cycling enthusiasts and organized tour groups.

In 2016 at the age of 55, Marjorie Young of Savannah decided to hike the Camino de Santiago, in order to celebrate her 56th birthday on the Camino. The Camino de Santiago is listed as a World Heritage Trail, which was selected by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as having significance to the collective interests of humanity.

RSVP to Olivia Baddley at olivia@outsidebrands.com. Location is 50 Shelter Cove Lane in Hilton Head Island, SC next to Whole Foods. The event is free.

The Junkluggers of the Lowcountry Announces Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Location in Bluffton

By | Local NewsWIRE

The Junkluggers of the Lowcountry Announces Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Location in Bluffton

(BLUFFTON, S.C.) The Junkluggers of the Lowcountry will hold a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, March 7, at 9:30 a.m. in front of the Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, 217 Goethe Road, Bluffton, S.C.

Light refreshments will be available.

The Junkluggers of the Lowcountry, an environmentally friendly and caring alternative to traditional junk removal, will serve Jasper and Beaufort counties in South Carolina. Specializing in both residential and commercial clean-outs, Junkluggers accepts everything from furniture to construction debris, including office equipment, heavy machinery and appliances.

“We opened Junkluggers of the Coastal Empire last October, but we quickly realized that the Hilton Head area had a huge demand for our services as well,” said Trevor Hess, owner and president of the local franchise. “We decided to open a new business to specifically serve this community.”

Junkluggers of the Lowcountry hauls away items people no longer want or need and strives to donate and recycle as much as possible with the goal of keeping items out of landfills. Customers receive a tax-deductible receipt for anything the company is able to donate on their customers’ behalf.

“Our mantra is donate first, recycle next and avoid landfills as much as possible,” Hess said. “Everything we put on the truck is sorted for donations, recycling and disposal with the landfill always being the last stop for any items removed.”

While keeping items out of the landfill is the company’s number one goal, Hess and his wife, Misty, are also focused on the impact the company can make in the local community.

“We partner with a lot of local charities that help a variety of causes,” Hess said. “From aiding those with special needs to helping formerly homeless veterans furnish their new apartments, we are extremely proud of the good we are able to do right in our own backyard.”

Junkluggers also plans to announce the opening of its Second Chance Store later this year.

This up-cycling retail facility will offer gently used furniture at deeply discounted prices as well as repaired items that otherwise would have been destined for the landfill. Proceeds will help benefit the Fisher House Foundation, which provides free housing for military and veterans’ families while their loved one is receiving treatment at military or VA medical centers.

For more information, please call 912-712-0227 or visit www.junkluggers.com.

Savannah Film Alliance to Take Part in Film Day at the Capitol

Savannah Film Alliance to Take Part in Film Day at the Capitol

(SAVANNAH, GA) The Savannah Film Alliance will lead a delegation of film and television professionals from the Savannah area to participate in Film Day at the Capitol in Atlanta on Tuesday, Feb. 27. The purpose of the event is to demonstrate to state legislators how significantly the film and television industry impacts the state and to emphasize how crucial it is to protect the tax credits and other incentives that have made Georgia the top filming destination in the country.

Gov. Deal has been very supportive of the industry, but as this is his last term, it’s imperative to not only remind our current legislators of the importance of these incentives but also to send that message to all potential future elected officials,” said Charles Bowen, founder of the Savannah Film Alliance. “We must continue to be vigilant and not allow other states to threaten the progress we’ve made.”

Bowen, who is a business and entertainment attorney and the owner of Southern Gateway Production Services, cautioned that the momentum that has carried Georgia to the vanguard of the production world must not be allowed to diminish. Since 2016, Georgia has hosted more feature film and television productions than any other location in the world. Further, despite the tremendous advantage Atlanta has over Savannah in terms of sound stages and other infrastructure, local direct spending on film and television productions in the Savannah area has risen from $18 million in 2014 to well over $60 million in 2017.

Bowen said he credits much of the rise of Savannah’s popularity as a destination for filming to the innovative and unique local economic incentive offered by the Savannah Economic Development Authority. “2018 is already on pace to shatter the record for production dollars spent in Savannah in a single year,” Bowen said.

By encouraging people who have benefited from the film industry to attend Film Day at the Capitol, Bowen said he hopes all legislators, including those on the local level, will continue to be committed to providing incentives, resources, and opportunities to bring filmmakers to the Savannah area. “The entertainment industry boosts almost every industry in town,” Bowen said. “When a film or television production comes to Savannah, they require all of the goods and services the town has to offer, thus they benefit the entire local business community. It is crucial that we don’t lose sight of the incredible impact the film industry is having on our local economy and that we strive to continue improving the experience and services offered visiting productions.”

The Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office is producing a video that will play in the rotunda during Film Day and will feature a photo montage of Georgians who have been impacted directly or indirectly by the industry. The Savannah Area Film Office is coordinating submissions of photos from the Savannah area for that production.

Film Day at the Capitol is set for Tuesday, Feb. 27, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Georgia State Capitol, 206 Washington St. SW in Atlanta. For more information, contact Charles Bowen at cbowen@thebowenlawgroup.com or 912-544-2050.

Camens Architectural Group Launches Redesigned Website Created by Speros

(SAVANNAH, GA) Camens Architectural Group is pleased to announce the launch of its newly redesigned website camensarchitecturalgroup.com.

Designed by Speros, a full-service technology company headquartered in Savannah, the visually striking site provides clients with a fully interactive and inspiring experience during the home design and build process.

“We’ve built a portal into the website so Camens can easily share information like project plans, renderings and progress photos with their clients,” said Lauren Dingus, web and graphics designer for Speros. “When a client logs into the website, they will have exclusive access to the documents and images related to their new home.”

The firm’s updated website also features an extensive portfolio with a wide range of residential projects across the U.S. and Europe.

“I wanted clients to be able to touch the photo of any home in our portfolio and watch it come to life,” said Marc Camens, the firm’s principal. “The Speros team was intuitive, listening as we described our goals for a website that would do what this new site now delivers.”

Established in 1982 and located on John’s Island in the South Carolina Lowcountry, Camens Architectural Group specializes in luxury custom residential home design, including construction administration, interior design and renovations as well as light commercial architectural design.
