Savannah Country Day School to Host Ground-Breaking Ceremony for Upper School STEM Building

Savannah, GA (May 13, 2021) Savannah Country Day School has announced that it has secured the
funding to begin construction on a new 32,000 sq. ft. Upper School building.

The new building, which will be named in honor of Shirley and Bud Mingledorff ’64, will house all Upper
School STEM classes, including five math classrooms, five science labs, an energy learning lab, and a
fabrication/maker space. Other building features will include a library, conference/meeting rooms,
common areas for students, Deans’ offices, and a second-story outdoor gathering space.

Healthy Savannah And YMCA Of Coastal Georgia Receive $544,000 For COVID-19 Vaccine Initiatives

(SAVANNAH, GA) Healthy Savannah and YMCA of Coastal Georgia have been awarded $544,000 in supplemental grant funding by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The funds will be used to broaden the initiatives of the current Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) grant to focus on COVID-19 vaccine education, awareness, and acceptance.

Free Faith and Nutrition Training for Savannah Church Groups

(SAVANNAH, GA) A free “Faith and Nutrition” training program is now available online to Savannah area faith-based organizations to help foster increased physical activity and healthy food consumption among African American adults. Also known as FAN, this training is being offered through a research study at the University of South Carolina Prevention Research Center and is supported by grant funding awarded by the CDC’s Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) program to the YMCA of Coastal Georgia and Healthy Savannah.

(SAVANNAH, GA) Center Parc Credit Union donated $3,500 to the Savannah Urban Garden Alliance (SUGA). The Alliance partners with schools, farmers, philanthropists, local businesses, and volunteers to increase access to and knowledge of urban gardening practices in order to provide local citizens with access to fresh produce, healthy food, and a self-sustaining knowledge base that effectively eliminates food deserts.
