Enmarket’s New Technology Lets Mobile Users Bypass Checkout Lines

Enmarket’s New Technology Lets Mobile Users Bypass Checkout Lines

(SAVANNAH, GA) Enmarket’s convenience stores just got more convenient with the installation of Skip Checkout, a new mobile-based application that enables customers to scan and pay for their goods with their phones and skip checkout lines.

The technology is available in all 124 Enmarket stores, making it the nation’s largest convenience store chain to adopt the technology.

“Customers who have the free Skip Checkout app can scan their purchases with the lens on their phone, pay with the click of a button, and flash their phone to the cashier on their way out the door, all without standing in line,” said Brett Giesick, President of Enmarket. “Even people who don’t use the app will benefit because this will speed up lines and enable our employees to work on even further improving the customer experience.”

Enmarket Mobile Payments

It sounds complicated, but it’s not. Here’s a step-by-step rundown:

  • Customers download the Skip Checkout app free from getskip.com or your preferred app store, create an account, and link a payment card to begin using the technology. The app can be up and running in just a few minutes.
  • When you visit your Enmarket store, open the app. Once you confirm your location, as prompted by the app, you are ready to shop!
  • Scan the barcodes of your items to add them to your shopping cart, where they will be stored until you are ready to pay. Items such as fresh fruit or hot dogs that don’t have a barcode can be purchased through a pick-list in the app.
  • Click the pay button to complete your transaction and charge your card. Then, on your way out of the store, flash your phone to an employee at the cash register to show you’re using Skip, and you’re done.

Age-restricted products such as beer may be scanned in the app, but those customers must still present their ID to the sales associate.

Customers have found the app very easy to use, and a fast, convenient way to shop.

“The process is smooth from start to finish, and the app is very easy to figure out how to use,” said Callie McIntosh, an Enmarket customer. “Enmarket has really made it convenient to get in and out quickly. I use it every time I check out, and I still get a friendly acknowledgement from the employees on my way out the door.”

Enmarket employees received training to prepare for the rollout of the new technology. Employees are alerted every time a Skip shopper enters the store, and also when they have paid for their transaction, thanks to an iPad using Skip technology next to the cash register. Security features are built in as well.

“Convenience to our customers is fundamental to our business model,” said Giesick. “By investing in the latest technology, we are able to enhance that convenience. Customers can get in, get out and get on their way even faster with Skip Checkout. We’re thrilled to introduce this innovative technology to consumers in our markets. It has been very well received by the customers and employees who have been a part of our initial test phase.”

Local campaign seeks to raise $75,000 to expand the transformational education program

(SAVANNAH, GA) Horizons Savannah announced today its participation in Horizons Giving Day, a national effort on May 15 with a single goal: to raise money to expand existing Horizons programs and bring Horizons to more students and their families. Horizons Savannah will engage in a competitive, yet friendly, race to raise funds online and in-person with more than 50 Horizons programs nationwide. All funds raised in support of Horizons Savannah will stay in the local community.

Horizons is a transformational, community-centered education program working to close the opportunity gap for low-income children in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Horizons includes six weeks of academics, arts, swim lessons, field trips, and more each summer through partnerships with Savannah Country Day School, Bethesda Academy, St. Andrew’s School, and Savannah Christian Preparatory School. Horizons students gain 8 – 12 weeks’ of reading and math skills each summer. Additionally, 97 percent of Horizons high school students graduate on time, and 91 percent go on to attend college or other post-secondary education.

Horizons makes a long-term commitment to each student, providing critical summer programming and school year supports,” says Christy Edwards, Executive Director of Horizons Savannah. “Our high quality project-based learning is led by an incredible faculty, and our swim lessons and positive learning environments impact students’ self-confidence and provide the skills needed to reach their goals.”

Ninety percent of Horizons students return to the program each year.

At Horizons Savannah, nearly 300 K-12 students from the local public school system participate in project-based learning curriculum, STEAM, literacy, and swimming each year. This number is expected to exceed 400 students by 2024.

Kole Management Sells Apartment Portfolio, Focuses Solely on Property Management

(Savannah, GA) Savannah-based Kole Management Co. is in the process of selling its portfolio of 13 apartment communities in two states to transition exclusively into property management. In its new form, the company will retain management of eleven of those properties.

“We have decided to devote all our time and expertise to third-party management and look forward to providing the same boutique, quality service to our clients and residents as we did when we were owner/operators,” said Kole Management COO Khrista Villegas.

Kole Management put its multifamily portfolio on the market in November, and all of its properties are under contract with closing expected in April and May. That portfolio consists of seven properties in Savannah, three in Macon and one each in Augusta and Canton, Georgia, and Charlotte, North Carolina.

”A number of factors, including historically low cap rates and broad investor interest in smaller market assets, came together to convince us that it was a good time to consider selling our portfolio,” said Kole Management Co. President, Jeff Kole. “Until recently, we had little interest in selling and were, in fact, building a robust and highly capable management company to oversee properties for ourselves and third parties. This sale provides us the opportunity to focus exclusively on offering boutique yet sophisticated property management for a wide range of apartments – from lease-ups to workforce housing – across the Southeast.”

The company expects to grow its multifamily property management portfolio with expansion into North Carolina and Florida, as well as additional properties in Macon. Details of those arrangements, as well as, the new positions brought on to support this growth, will be announced in the near future.

Beaufort Dermatology Innovates With Non-Invasive Skin Exam Technology

(BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA) Beaufort Dermatology of Pinnacle Medical Group is thrilled to present Vivascope 1500, the newest in skin cancer technology allowing the provider to make a diagnosis without removing any tissue. Pinnacle is the only practice in the area offering this advanced technology.

In-vivo reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) is a non-invasive skin imaging modality for detecting diseases of the skin such as melanoma and other cancers. It can be used in place of biopsies in certain cases and is effective in viewing large skin lesions where a biopsy of the entire spot might be difficult.

Additionally, it is useful in defining the margins of an area for surgical excision and can be useful in evaluating the results of treatment. Among its advantages is the ability to avoid potential scarring from biopsies and also provides a safe, painless option for children or those who may be nervous about procedures.

“Medical research and development shape a modern medical practice,” said owner Dr. Audrey A. Klenke, MD, FACS. “We are so excited to be the first to offer Vivascope 1500, which can decipher a lesion that needs to be removed versus one that can be safely monitored. In the Lowcountry, our fun-in-the-sun lifestyle makes it critical to prioritize skin health.”

Dr. Klenke adds, “The fact that procedures are becoming increasingly less invasive without losing the ability to accurately diagnose and treat is great news for patient care.”

Roush’s Delivery Service, founded in 1973, provides expedited less-than-truckload (LTL) and logistics services. Mike Roush is president of the family-owned firm, and Mike Roush Jr. is its general manager. The company experienced a 400% growth over the past four years, thus demanding physical expansion.

“We have to adapt as our clients’ needs change,” said Mike Roush. “Most of our customers now need project-based work, and our new site will equip us to meet those needs in the most effective manner. Yes, we have grown tremendously, but the reason for this expansion is also to better serve our clients.”

The pre-engineered metal building will include 3,500 square feet of heated and cooled office space. The building is dock-high all the way around, and the office portion will be configured as two stories. Translucent light panels along the front and rear will allow natural light into the warehouse. 12 overhead garage doors that vary in size with edge or pit levelers will accommodate most any truck and its load. There is also a concrete ramp into the building from parking level as another means of access for receiving or delivering goods.

“Mike and I were buddies in grade school and high school,” Chris Tilton, one of the principals at Dewitt Tilton, said of the younger Roush. “Who would have thought, back when we were at Benedictine, that we would one day be working together on a $2 million construction project? We appreciate all of our clients, but it is really fun to work with old friends.”
